Watch Daniel Day-Lewis in His Final Performance in 'Phantom Thread' Trailer

Phantom Thread

Phantom Thread would already be one of the most anticipated movies of the year just for being the latest from Paul Thomas Anderson. Upping the ante, though, is that it's another PTA movie starring Daniel Day-Lewis. And especially significant is the fact that this is supposed to be Day-Lewis's final film role before retiring from the profession

But let's not mourn the loss of one of the finest actors of all time just yet, because we still have Phantom Thread to look forward to, and the reunion of Day-Lewis with Anderson should be phenomenal. The former won his second of three Oscars for Best Actor for his performance in the latter's There Will Be Blood and this could possibly bring him his fourth.

Other reasons to be excited about Phantom Thread include it being another collaboration between Anderson and composer Jonny Greenwood, of Radiohead, plus its being Anderson's first movie where he's his own cinematographer. It is also, like The Master, another PTA feature set in the 1950s, this time in the world of couture fashion.

Watch the trailer below.

Official Synopsis:

Set in the glamour of 1950s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. With his latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson paints an illuminating portrait both of an artist on a creative journey, and the women who keep his world running.
