The Mummy

The latest trailer for The Mummy invites the audience to "witness the beginning of a dark universe." The filmmakers obviously have something different in mind that what we've seen from Marvel or DC and their cinematic universes.

Indeed, we get to see Tom Cruise fighting off some kind of evil that threatens to take him over; a series of thumping action sequences, set in the air and in the water and in a forest and who knows where else; a tough-as-nails female lead in Annabelle Wallis; a possible ally in Russell Crowe who probably knows more than he's letting on; and an unlikely villain in Sofia Boutella, whose power lies less in her slight physical appearance and more in the powers that she possesses.

That's a very potent combination that makes it a must-see production. Watch the trailer below. The Mummy opens on June 6.

The Glass Castle

Brie Larson and Woody Harrelson are seemingly everywhere these days. Larson has already made striking appearances this year in Kong: Skull Island and Free Fire, while Harrelson starred in the indie comedy Wilson and plays the villain in the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes.

But The Glass Castle promises to be something different. First, it was written for the screen and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who worked with Larson on Short Term 12, which many people consider the actress' breakout role. Second, it's based on a memoir by Jeannette Walls, first published in 2005, that became a bestseller and was translated into 22 languages.

Just based on those two factors alone, the movie generated a good degree of advance buzz. Now the first trailer has been released and it packs a big emotional punch. Naomi Watts also stars; look for it in theaters on August 11. Watch the trailer below.

The House

Now for something on the lighter side! Set for release on June 30, The House comes from the writing team of Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O'Brien (Neighbors, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), which gives a good hint about the type of broad, bawdy humor on tap.

What distinguishes this comedy is the combination of Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler as a married couple scheming to pay for their daughter's college education by opening a casino in their basement. It's a crazy idea, but the two former Saturday Night Live stars sell it sensationally and the movie looks like a lot of fun.

Enjoy the trailer below, although please note that it's a red-band trailer (i.e. filled with things that justify its R-rating and make it very much not safe for work.)
