These Stunning 'Warcraft' Videos Help Set Up This Summer's Big Video Game Adaptation

With its release date rapidly aproaching, the promotional push for Warcraft has stepped up, with a flock of new videos providing a very tasty array of treats. It will be this year's third video game adaptation, preceded by Ratchet and Clank, which rolled out a few weeks ago, and The Angry Birds Movie, due in theaters this coming Friday.

Warcraft features a bevy of good actors in starring roles who may not yet be household names, people like Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu. Behind the camera, the secret weapon is director Duncan Jones, whose two previous features (Moon, a haunting drama, and Source Code, a clever thriller) amply demonstrated his talents as a storyteller.

Let's take a look at the latest videos and see what they reveal about Warcraft. The first thing to have in mind is that the story takes place before the World of Warcraft game. Orc warriors are fleeing their dying world and have traveled through a portal to the peaceful realm of Azeroth. In this clip, as some of the humans travel through a forest, they are attacked by brutish orcs. Watch out for that flying horse!

The knight leading the humans is Sir Anduin Lothar (Fimmel), while the young man who nearly loses his life to an orc is Khadgar (Schnetzer), who is an apprentice to someone else (more on that below.)

In another clip, orc chieftain Durotan (Kebbell) discusses with his best friend, orc warrior Orgrim (Kazinsky), the possibility of siding with the humans against an even more dangerous foe, the orc warlock Gul'dan (Wu).

Here's a featurette with Kazinsky providing more insight into the character he plays, Orgrim.

Coming back to young Khadgar (Schnetzer), here he shares a scene with Medivh (Foster), who protects humans with magical powers, which he demonstrates on Khadgar.

This clip showcases Garona (Patton), who is half-human and half-orc. Obviously, her loyalties are divided. But King Llane (Cooper) requests her assistance in behalf of the humans.

Finally, this video gives a great look at the special effects in the movie.

Will Warcraft live up to expectations? The movie will open in U.S. theaters on June 10.
