Superhero Buzz: 'Batman v Superman' Finds Its Robin? Plus: Jason Momoa Talks 'Aquaman' and More

Jena Malone

If you’ve got a wicked case of the Mondays, maybe a piping-hot batch of superhero news will turn your frown upside down. Today we’ve got the latest on the gender-bending potential Robin casting, Jason Momoa on playing Aquaman, and more.

The big news on Friday was that actress Jena Malone has a part in the upcoming Zack Snyder film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Warner Bros. isn’t saying who she’s playing, but an adventurous extra on the film technically violated his (or her) nondisclosure agreement to reveal that the film features a female Robin. Could this be Malone’s part?

The idea of a woman playing Robin isn’t as far-fetched as casual fans think – Carrie Kelley was Batman’s sidekick in The Dark Knight Returns miniseries, which Snyder has cited as a major inspiration for the new film.

We’ll keep this one filed under rumor until we get official confirmation, but we wouldn’t be remotely surprised if this news was true. [via THR]

Jason Momoa talks Aquaman

Speaking of rumors, remember when everyone was speculating that Jason Momoa was going to play Aquaman for Warner Bros.? Well, that rumor is completely true.

Khal Drogo himself will now be the king of Atlantis in several upcoming DC projects. Now that the cat is officially out of the bag, Momoa is talking about what fans can expect and how he’ll be preparing for the role.

The actor breaks down the plan for the character’s reveal and evolution in this quote:

“I don't know the director. I know about as much as you guys know. I know the Justice League will come first. That's really what we're going to focus on. I'm not sure if it will be [set] prior to Justice League or post. I don't know too much about it. It will probably be where he came from. It will probably be his whole origin story I would think... So I know we're going to do Justice League first."

While we don’t know what’s next exactly for the character, we do know that we’re going to get our first look at Aquaman in Batman v Superman. [via Coming Soon]

Adam McKay and Paul Rudd tweak Ant-Man

Paul Rudd

Adam McKay (Anchorman) turned down the opportunity to direct Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man movie, but he did agree to help reshape the original Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish script – and after eight weeks of intensive work, he’s talking about what he’s bringing to the table.

“We just shaped the whole thing. We just tried to streamline it, make it cleaner, make it a little bigger, a little more aggressive, make it funnier in places.”

That sounds great, but what about the action?

“We added some new action beats. I grew up on Marvel Comics so the geek in me was in heaven that I got to add a giant action sequence to the movie. I was so excited. So we did; we added some cool new action. There’s a lot that’s already in there from what Edgar did, there’s a lot of dialogue and character still in there.”

The idea of McKay writing a superhero movie is still hard to wrap our head around, but we're intrigued and anxious to see what he can do with it. We’ll find out when the film releases on July 17. [via Variety]
