Roland's Quest For 'The Dark Tower' Delayed Yet Again

Mar 31, 2017

Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came

That's the title of a poem by Robert Browning that inspired Stephen King's sprawling fantasy series about a gunslinger named Roland and his eternal quest to reach a fabled Dark Tower. But after all the false starts and delays that have afflicted this production, the more apt title should be "Childe Roland to the dark tower came...eventually...some day...maybe."

Earlier this week Sony finally showed a trailer for the Idris Elba starring movie, the first in a hopeful franchise, to a crowd of press and movie theater owners at CinemaCon. Those who know nothing about the book seemed to dig it the most. Those who are more familiar with Roland's world, however, were a bit alarmed at the changes Nikolaj Arcel's movie was making. But either way, there weren't a lot of "Wow, that looks terrible!" Overall, the reaction seemed to be one of cautious optimism.

Sony, however, doesn't seem too eager to let the movie out of the bag. They didn't put the trailer online and now they've delayed the release from July 28 to August 4. Granted, it's the shortest delay the movie has experienced yet (it was supposed to hit theaters on February 17), but it's still a delay nonetheless. Instead, Sony will be moving up their animated The Emoji Movie to take The Dark Tower's place.

In the meantime, us Stephen King fans will just sit here, wondering when the rest of us will get to see the trailer.
