Patrick Stewart Joins the 'Charlie's Angels' Reboot; Here's Everything We Know

Star Trek: First Contact

The Angels are heading to the big screen once again. Originally a TV series in the 1970s, Charlie's Angels was later adapted into a 2000 action comedy that continued the canon of the show, and that spawned one sequel three years later. In 2011, there was a TV series reboot on the small screen, but it was very short-lived. Now, Sony is bringing the property back to theaters with a new version that will hopefully start a new film franchise.

News on the movie reboot has been slow since its announcement two years ago, but with a production start approaching, casting is ramping up. The Hollywood Reporter just shared the latest, that Sir Patrick Stewart is in negotiations to play one of multiple Bosley characters in the feature. Elizabeth Banks, who is also co-writing, producing and directing the new Charlie's Angels, is also playing another Bosley.

Here's everything we know about the movie so far:

Who are the Angels this time?

While it's been said that there will be more than just the iconic number of three Angels this time around, at the moment we only know of three actresses cast in the roles: Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) and Ella Balinska (Midsomer Murders). When Stewart was first announced a year ago, Lupita Nyong'o was another potential Angel, but she doesn't seem to be involved anymore.

What is the premise?

Little is known about the actual plot of this version, but the idea is that the Charles Townsend Agency, the operatives of which are all women, is now a global firm dealing in security and intelligence, not just local private investigation cases. And there are multiple teams around the world.

Who else is in the movie?

Elizabeth Banks and Patrick Stewart are both said to be playing the part of Bosley. That seems weird, but as we mentioned, there are multiple teams now. Also, in the last set of movies, we saw both Bill Murray as Bosley in Charlie's Angels and then Bernie Mac as Bosley in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, explained in the movie as Mac's version being the adopted brother of Murray.

Where's Charlie?

As of yet, there is nobody cast as the titular head of the Townsend Agency. The voice-only role is iconically associated with actor John Forsythe, who passed away in 2010. It is unknown if the part will even be played by someone else or the agency is just operating without him now.

Who is the director this time?

Banks, who is also producing alongside husband Max Handelman and co-writing with Jay Basu (The Girl in the Spider's Web), will be at the helm of the Charlie's Angels reboot. This will be her sophomore directorial effort, following her 2015 feature debut with Pitch Perfect 2

When does the new Charlie's Angels come out?

September 27, 2019.
