Sep 23, 2010

According to a research firm called Screen Digest, 20 percent of homes will be 3-D ready by 2014. Here’s some news for you early adopters.

Looking for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland in 3-D BD but don’t want to pay for Sony’s 3-D Starter Kit? You can pick it up on its own on December 7. The extras will mirror the previous BD Alice in Wonderland release and will contain a 2D copy of the film that is playable on any Blu-ray player.

The animated family hit Open Season featuring the voices of Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher will come to 3-D Blu-ray on November 16. The extras will be similar to the 2D Blu-ray already on the market, with the exception of the "Wheel of Fortune: Forest Edition" and "Voice-a-Rama" featurettes, which are now enhanced for 3-D.

Here’s some bloody good news: Best Buy will exclusively offer My Bloody Valentine 3-D on October 5. The slashsational 2009 remake of the cult classic is already available on Blu-ray with those red-and-blue cheapie paper glasses, but this new version will be the real 3-D deal for those who have sweet setups. Supplements haven't been revealed yet, but they should mirror the previous BD release.

More new on Blu:

If you thought Christian Bale's performances in The Dark Knight and The Machinist were dark, check him out in the aptly named Harsh Times set in South Central Los Angeles. The bleak drama co-starring Freddy Rodriguez comes to Blu-ray on September 7 and is one of those titles previously released on the defunct HD DVD format.

Another HD DVD exclusive, Derailed comes to BD December 28. The extras for the thriller starring Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston thriller haven't been revealed yet, but should mirror and possibly improve upon those on the HD DVD release.

The 1972 Hammer Films Production Vampire Circus will be Synapse Films' first Blu-ray release this December. Director Robert Young's cult film about a traveling circus of vampires that visits a small 19th century village comes with a circus tent's worth of extras, including a new documentary on the film, "Gallery of Grotesqueries," "A Brief History of Circus Horrors," a retrospective on the House of Hammer, a Vampire Circus interactive comic book and much more.

Also new on BD this week: American Beauty, Being Human: Season Two, Charade, Delicatessen, The Experiment, Modern Family: The Complete First Season, The Peacemaker, Robin Hood, The Secret in Their Eyes, Spartacus—Blood and Sand: The Complete First Season, Stomp the Yard: Homecoming, The Third Man, Triple Dog and Vigilante
