Gone Girl: Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher) is said to be the frontrunner to play a missing wife opposite Ben Affleck as a husband suspected of her murder in David Fincher's upcoming thriller Gone Girl, but a bevy of other actresses are evidently still in competition for the role. Abbie Cornish, Olivia Wilde and Julianne Hough will all meet with Fincher soon; producers are aiming to begin filming in September. [The Hollywood Reporter / Variety]

Everest: While multiple actresses are competing for a single coveted role, four men may climb Everest for director Baltasar Kormakur (The Deep, 2 Guns). Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke are all in talks to star in the movie, which will tell the story of three ill-fated mountain-climbing expeditions in 1996 that turned disastrous. Jon Krakeur wrote about the events in his chilling nonfiction book Into Thin Air. [Deadline]

Suspension of Disbelief: Veteran director Mike Figgis (One Night Stand, The Loss of Sexual Innocence) has a new erotic thriller titled Suspension of Disbelief coming out in U.K. theaters this weekend, up against Edgar Wright's comedy The World's End. As "counterprogramming," distributor Swipe Films has teamed up with lingerie boutique Coco De Mer to offer the opportunity for moviegoers to win a voucher (for about $300) that can be used at the "luxury erotic store" in London. Rush Trailer: Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) star as rival race car drivers in Ron Howard's Rush, due in theaters on September 27, and the latest trailer puts the emphasis on "racy" with Hemsworth positioned as a sexy, flirtatious party boy who must get serious to defeat Bruhl. It's based on the real-life rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 1970s; Olivia Wilde and Natalie Dormer also star. [MovieClips]
