X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past: The next installment of the series will find the characters from X-Men: First Class in the 1970s, thus explaining why James McAvoy (aka Professor Charles Xavier) looks like Al Pacino in 1973's Serpico in a photo that director Bryan Singer tweeted from the set. The movie is currently in production, headed for release on July 17, 2014. [Bryan Singer's Twitter via Empire]

The Maze Runner: Production begins on Monday for sci-fi action flick The Maze Runner, based on the James Dashner YA novel of the same name. Director Wes Ball created a jaw-dropping piece of concept art: "It was for me, really. I like writing images,” he says. The story follows a young man whose memory has been wiped before he is dropped into a mysterious giant maze . The movie is scheduled for release on February 14, 2014. []

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Last we heard, Jeff Nathanson had been hired to write a script for Pirates of the Caribbean 5, with Johnny Depp's return dependent on whether it met with his satisfaction. In the meantime, Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are narrowing down their list of candidates to direct. Reportedly, the short list includes Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki), and Fredrik Bond (The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman). Production could start late this year or early in 2014, assuming little things like the script and star get locked down. [Deadline]

Battle of the Year Trailer: Josh Holloway, best known for playing Sawyer on TV's Lost, may make for an unlikely basketball coach turned breakdancing crew coach in Battle of the Year, but that's part of the charm of the crazy new trailer, which features acrobatic moves and bodies flying through the air like they just don't care. The movie opens on September 13. [Yahoo! Movies]
