Equals: Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult star in Equals, a science-fiction drama imagining a world "without greed, poverty, violence, or emotion." That is, until a new disease arises, threatening the world with "love, depression, sensitivity, and fear." The first official photos suggest a forbidding environment for their characters. Drake Doremus (Like Crazy) directed; the movie will debut at the Venice Film Festival in early September. [Collider]

Jake Gyllenhaal

Stronger: Jake Gyllenhaal is in early talks to star in Stronger, based on the true story of Jeff Burman, who survived the bombing at the Boston Marathon in 2013 but lost both his legs in the terrorist attack. Burman wrote a book on his experiences, co-authored with Bret Witter, and John Pollano has written the screenplay; David Gordon Green will direct. Gyllenhaal has not yet been offered the role, but is said to be "the favorite" among those considered. [Variety]

Nicola Peltz / Courtney Eaton

Looking for Alaska: Candidates for the lead roles in Looking for Alaska, based on a novel by John Green (The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns) have been narrowed. Nicola Peltz (Transfomers: Age of Extinction) and Courtney Eaton (Mad Max: Fury Road) are the latest to test for the female lead, a "mysterious boarding school student," joining Anya Taylor-Joy and Imogen Waterhouse in the mix, while Charlie Rowe (TV's Red Band Society) and Mitchell Hope (TV's Descendants) are up for the male lead role.
