The Disaster Artist

Multiple Man: Recently we heard that James Franco (The Disaster Artist, above) will star in an X-Men spin-off for Fox about the Marvel Comics character Multiple Man. Now Franco has confirmed the project and says: "How can we push this into new ground? A little bit, but still make it entertaining? … They are going to go hard R. And we're going to take this superhero thing and really just push it into a new genre." [THR]

Avatar Sequels: Filmmaker James Cameron (on the set of Avatar, above) is now in production on the first in a planned four-film series of sequels to his sci-fi adventure Avatar, but says: "Let’s face it, if Avatar 2 and 3 don’t make enough money, there’s not going to be a 4 and 5. They’re fully encapsulated stories in and of themselves. It builds across the five films to a greater kind of meta narrative, but they’re fully formed films in their own right." Avatar 2 is currently set for release on December 18, 2020. [Vanity Fair]

The Theory of Everything

The Aeronauts: Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones (above in The Theory of Everything) are in talks to reunite in The Aeronauts. If things work out, Jones will play a pilot and Redmayne will portray a scientist in the 19th century adventure, inspired by real-life events about an epic journey in a balloon. Tom Harper (The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death) will direct. [Deadline]
