The Spectacular Now

Shailene Woodley: She made a splash as George Clooney’s troubled teen daughter in last year’s The Descendants, and will undoubtedly break hearts as Mary Jane Watson in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but the next time we see Shailene Woodley will be in James Ponsoldt’s The Spectacular Now, which was just announced as a Sundance feature competition title. Our first look at the high school romance reveals the actress leaning on costar Miles Teller. [The Film Stage]

X-Men: Days of Future Past: Hot on the heels of news that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be reprising their roles as Professor X and Magneto for director Bryan Singer in X-Men: Days of Future Past, now comes word that Hugh Jackman is in talks to flex his adamantium claws as Wolverine in the film. Alert fans know that Jackman made an extremely brief (and funny!) cameo in X-Man: First Class; we hope this outing will be more substantial. Jackman recently completed work on The Wolverine, the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Guardians of the Galaxy: Another Marvel property, Guardians of the Galaxy, is searching for its newest star, and a short list of actors are under serious consideration to play Peter Quill, a half-alien, half-human character. Reportedly, the list includes Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Lee Pace (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables). Additional actors may also be in contention for a role that is likely to be career-defining. [Deadline]

Pacific Rim Viral Video: A new video has been released for Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, following up the viral campaign’s news theme with peeks at footage that may or may not be in the final film. But, hey -- it’s giant robots vs. aliens! The movie is due out next summer. [Hey U Guys]
