Captain America: Civil War

Jekyll: Chris Evans, also known as Captain America (above), will star in Jekyll, based on the modern-day BBC miniseries adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story. Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry (The Nice Guys) have written the screenplay about a dangerous man with a split personality. Russell Crowe is already set to star as the character in Universal's upcoming The Mummy, due out on June 8, 2017. [Deadline]

Into the Woods

Mary Poppins Returns: Meryl Streep is in talks to join Emily Blunt in Mary Poppins Returns. The two previously teamed in The Devil Wears Prada and Into the Woods (above). The latter was directed by Rob Marshall, who is also helming the followup to Mary Poppins. If things work out, Streep will portray Topsy, one of Mary's cousins, and will also sing in the movie. Lin Manuel-Miranda (Broadway's Hamilton) is already set to costar. [Variety]

Idina Menzel / Beaches

Beaches: Idina Menzel (above left) will star in a new version of Beaches. Directed by Garry Marshall, the 1988 original starred Bette Midler (above right) and Barbara Hershey in a sentimental tale about a friendship between two women that stretches over decades. It's perhaps best remembered for the popular song "Wind Beneath My Wings," which Menzel will sing in the remake for the Lifetime television network. Allison Anders (Grace of My Heart) will direct. Masterminds Trailer: Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis and Owen Wilson try to pull off a bank heist in Masterminds. A new trailer spotlights the supporting roles played by Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, who starred with Wiig in Ghostbusters. The comedy will open in theaters on September 30. [Movieclips]
