Movie News: 'The Exorcist' Heads to TV; Watch Smashing New 'Warcraft' TV Spot

The Exorcist

The Exorcist: A new version of William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel The Exorcist is heading to television. It's described as a "propulsive, serialized psychological thriller" about two men trying to help a family dealing with demonic possession. The success of the first screen adaptation, William Friedkin's 1973 horror classic, inspired two sequels and two prequels. Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect, Fantastic Four) has written the script for the pilot episode of the proposed series. [Variety]

Lady Bird: Saoirse Ronan, who recently received an Academy Award nomination as best actress for her performance in Brooklyn (above), will star in Lady Bird, the directorial debut of actress and writer Greta Gerwig (Mistress America). Ronan will portray a young woman in her final year of high school in Sacramento, California; the movie is based on an original screenplay by Gerwig. [Deadline]

 

Drag Me to Hell

A Prophet: Sam Raimi is in early talks to direct A Prophet, a remake of a gritty French crime drama. Dennis Lehane (The Drop) wrote the new adaptation. The 2009 original followed a young Arab man who becomes a criminal kingpin while serving a prison sentence; it was nominated for an Academy Award as best foreign language film. [Deadline]

 

Warcraft

Warcraft TV Spot: A smashing new television spot for Warcraft quickly communicates its premise: war is coming, so humans must unite with their enemies, the orcs, against an even more dangerous enemy.
