Beauty and the Beast: Another update on Disney's live-action remake of their 1991 animated Best Picture nominee, as a release date for Beauty and the Beast has been set for St. Patrick's Day (March 17), 2017. Also, joining the cast are Emma Thompson, who'll play Mrs. Potts, the teapot, and Kevin Kline, who will play Belle's father. Finally, the movie has been confirmed as a musical, with new versions of songs from the original plus new tunes by Tim Rice and Alan Menken, who will also compose the score. Menken won Oscars for his score and for his and Howard Ashman's song "Beauty and the Beast" from the original. [Variety]

Richard Pryor Biopic: Eddie Murphy was once considered for the part of his old friend Richard Pryor in a biopic about the comedian/actor. Now he's older and ready to portray the man's alcoholic father. Mike Epps is playing Pryor in the untitled movie, which will also co-star Jennifer Hudson and be directed by Lee Daniels. [THR]

The Dam Keeper: It lost at the Oscars this year, but the Academy Award-nominated animated short The Dam Keeper will presumably have another chance some day in the Best Animated Feature category. The makers of the 18-minute original are developing an expanded version as well as three graphic novels that will continue the story of a young pig and his friends from the short. The books are set years later and will be released starting in 2016. [Variety]

The Stars My Destination: Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who we've loved for a while through his shorts and his feature The Kings of Summer, is on a roll. Currently working on the King Kong movie Skull Island and still expected to do a Metal Gear Solid movie, he's already lined up another project, an adaptation of Alfred Bester's classic sci-fi novel The Stars My Destination, which is like an outer space-set version of The Count of Monte Cristo. With teleportation. [THR]

Lego Jurassic World Trailer: The trailer for the Lego Jurassic World video game is mostly filled with re-creations of scenes from the original 1993 movie. The action takes players through events of Jurassic ParkThe Lost World: Jurassic ParkJurassic Park III and this summer's Jurassic World. And you can play as the dinosaurs, too. [Coming Soon]
