You Will Become Addicted to These Fantastic Cinemagraphs from Your Favorite Movies

Jun 04, 2013

It doesn't take too much Internet surfing these days to realize the animated GIF has infiltrated practically everything we look at online, partly because "the Internet" thinks our attention spans no longer afford us the time to read a meaty paragraph or two when it can all be summed up with a GIF of someone comically yanking their hair out. Of course there are people attempting more interesting, entertaining and addictive experiments with plain old images, like the blog Tech Noir, which takes images from your favorite movies and turns them into dreamy cinemagraphs.

Basically cinemagraphs are still photographs that separate a small movement from the film scene and repeat it within the image. There's definitely an art to it, though, with each isolated movement dictating the mood of the image. We've highlighted some of our favorites below (we'll let you guess which movies they're from), but be careful when you click over to see more at Tech Noir because you will find yourself staring at these things for a very long time.

‘The pills come from a girlfriend who’s a shrink, she tried to analyze me once but she got too scared’.
Sin City (2005)

‘Are you cool? … I’m cool.’
Reservoir Dogs (1992)

“Come out to the coast, we’ll get together, have a few laughs…”
Die Hard (1988)

‘I don’t like the snappy attitude. This is the most important decision you’ve made in your lives. Go over by that trampoline and talk it through before you give me another quick answer.’
Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

‘I blow that tunnel open, I’m gone. … There’s more to you than that.’
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

‘Alright. Hey. Alright. Good job, guys. Let’s just not come in tomorrow. Let’s just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There’s a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don’t know what it is, but I wanna try it.’
The Avengers (2012)

‘I think I need everyone to think I’m the greatest, the “Fantastic” Mr. Fox.’
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

‘The whole world’s comin’ to an end, Mal!’
Natural Born Killers (1994)

‘You oughta spend a little more time dealing with yourself, a little less time worrying about what your brother does.’
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
