Midnight Special: Michael Shannon (aka the villainous Zod in the upcoming Man of Steel) will star in Jeff Nichols' sci-fi chase film Midnight Special, which has been acquired by Warner Bros. It will be the first studio project for Nichols, who has worked with Shannon on all three of his previous films -- Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter and the currently playing Mud. Production is scheduled to begin in February 2014; Nichols previously said he wanted to make "a 1980s John Carpenter movie," perhaps like the great Starman, which bodes well for Midnight Special. Jurassic Park 4: Just last week, director Colin Trevorrow tweeted a photo that seemed to indicate he was scouting locations for Jurassic Park 4, then scheduled for release on June 13, 2014. But Universal Pictures has now scrubbed those plans, stating that, "in coordination with filmmakers," it has decided to release the movie "at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version." As a result, 21 Jump Street 2 will move up and open a bit earlier than expected. [Universal Pictures]

Man from U.N.C.L.E.: Tom Cruise and Armie Hammer are already set to star in Man from U.N.C.L.E. under the direction of Guy Ritchie, and now it looks like the film's leading lady has been found. Alicia Vikander, whose performances in Anna Karenina and A Royal Affair drew raves last fall, is in negotiations to star as "a British agent who has a thing for cars." The character did not appear in the 1960s TV show that serves as the basis for the movie. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Inside Llewyn Davis Trailer: The Coen Brothers will debut Inside Llewyn Davis, set in the New York folk music world of the 1960s, at Cannes this month ahead of its theatrical release on December 6. Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund and Justin Timberlake star; they all make appearances in a fabulous new red-band (NSFW for language) trailer. [Yahoo! Movies]
