Ang Lee's upcoming adaptation of Yann Martel novel Life of Pi will be heading to theaters this fall, and we finally have a first look at the 3D adventure tale about a lone shipwreck survivor who ends up on a lifeboat with a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a Bengal tiger. The 10-second clip, which we spotted at SlashFilm, shows Pi (played by Suraj Sharma) with tiger Richard Parker — his only companion while lost at sea.

It's a brief glimpse, but le tigre makes a strong impression. The film's promotional banners are stunning and look like watercolor paintings, which we are guaranteed to see more of in the film's breathtaking cinematography. These are the kinds of movies that 3D seems made for, artfully executed and full of life. Life of Pi opens in theaters on November 21
