Dr. Who

Who will oppose our favorite Norse god (Chris Hemsworth) in the forthcoming sequel, Thor: The Dark World? Loki (Tom Hiddleston), of course, will still be around, but to bolster the side of the bad guys, Christopher Eccleston, who played the heroic Doctor Who in the 2005 revival of the BBC TV series (above), will portray Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves. Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) was previously considered for the role. [Deadline]

Speaking of villains, we recently heard that Kenneth Branagh would be playing the bad guy in the untitled Jack Ryan reboot, starring Chris Pine. Branagh, who is also directing, will (presumably) have a say in who plays Jack Ryan’s wife, and the race for the role has reportedly come down to Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones, and a bit of a wild card: Evangeline Lilly, from TV's Lost. The hope is that the reboot will be the first in a new action trilogy. [Collider]

Two new images from Red Dawn, the long-delayed remake of John Milius’ 1984 sci-fi war flick, have appeared, revealing Chris Hemsworth in a more down-to-earth role than Thor. (You can see one of the pics below.) As in the original, the U.S. is invaded by a foreign invasion force, with a small group of young people training in the woods to fight back. Josh Hutcherson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Adrienne Palicki also star; the film is due out on November 21. [USA Today]

The new trailer for House at the End of the Street shows Jennifer Lawrence singing and playing guitar, Elisabeth Shue (as her mother) admonishing her about the boy next door, and the boy next door (Max Thieriot) looking cute, but scary, too. Look for House in theaters on September 21. [Yahoo! Movies]
