Don't Expect to See That Channing Tatum 'Ghostbusters' Movie Any Time Soon

Jun 26, 2015

If you need a reminder that projects rise and fall quickly in Hollywood, look no further than the Ghosbusters franchise. Before Sony even started filming the current one, directed by Paul Feig and featuring an all-female team of Ghostbusters (plus Chris Hemsworth as their secretary), it was revealed that the studio had huge plans for the franchise, including a spin-off movie that would star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt and would be written by Iron Man 3's Drew Pearce.

About two months later Chris Pratt pretty shot that news down, bluntly saying "As far as I know, that's complete bulls**t."

Fast forward another month or so and now Channing Tatum's producing and screenwriting partner Reid Carolin is backtracking a bit on what Pratt said. No, the movie isn't happening, but at least at one stage it was. But now he's told Screenrant:

"We're not doing that anymore. ... I think it's too complicated. There's a lot of things going on with that brand and I just feel like it's over-saturated."

Now, that could mean a lot of things. It could mean that Sony's plans for Ghostubsters are so big that Tatum and friends didn't want to be a small part in a massive franchise. It could simply mean that no one could contractually figure out how to make the deal work. It does mean one thing for sure: Channing Tatum is not going to be a Ghostbuster any time soon.
