'Trainwreck' Trailer: Judd Apatow's New Comedy Is All About Amy Schumer's Insane Dating Life

Feb 11, 2015

The most admirable thing about the comedies Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, This Is 40) has directed is that they all feature characters who feel like real people. Apatow, who cowrote his latest film Trainwreck with its star Amy Schumer, has a knack for deconstructing our everyday boring lives with immensely entertaining humor and heart, often with a side of awkward raunchiness. And what Knocked Up did for the single dude -- not to mention what This Is 40 did for the approaching-40 dude -- Trainwreck looks to do for the single lady who's a bit lost and disheveled and searching for some kind of existence beyond getting drunk and sleeping with men on the first date.

Check out the first trailer below.

The comedy, starring Schumer and Bill Hader, features a host of familiar faces (like Brie Larson, Colin Quinn and Vanessa Bayer) -- and since Hader's character is a sports doctor, you've got a bunch of famous athletes in there, too. LeBron James makes his big-screen acting debut, and the film also promises to feature Amar'e Stoudemire and John Cena, whose Mark Wahlberg takedown in the trailer is one of its highlights. We also admire Apatow's love of having two females crack jokes about a dude who's playing in the yard with kids. It's a comical moment he keeps coming back to (beginning with Knocked Up), evolving the jokes with each movie, and it never fails to amuse us.

Trainwreck hits theaters on July 17, but not before premiering a work-in-progress version at next month's SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.
