'Men in Black 3' Writer Tapped for 'Ghostbusters 3' Script Rewrite

Jul 10, 2012

Ghostbusters logoThe Ghostbusters 3 saga takes another turn today, with Variety reporting that a new writer has officially been brought on to the long in development project.

Etan Cohen, whose most recent credit is the screenplay for Men in Black 3, has been hired to rewrite the script for Sony Pictures. Cohen will take over for departing scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who were hired to pen the third entry in the popular franchise back in 2008. The duo did deliver scripts, but they were deemed not quite good enough to get star Bill Murray to reprise his role as Dr. Peter Venkman. Cohen will reportedly write a new draft with the idea that Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson will pass the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters.

Cohen is busy these days – aside from this new writing gig, he’s about to make his directorial debut with the horror-comedy Boy Scouts vs. Zombies for Paramount. His earlier credits include Tropic Thunder and Idiocracy.

What do you think? Are you still interested in a third Ghostbusters movie or is this a franchise that should remain buried in the ‘80s and our fond memories? Share your thoughts with us below.
