'Dark Skies' Trailer Premiere: The Producers of 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Sinister' Trade Demons for Something New...

Nov 21, 2012

Given the setups for Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Sinister, it would certainly seem like producer Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions have a type when it comes to horror movies: take a wholesome family, move 'em into the suburbs and then drip feed them into a terrifying scenario. In the past, that's typically involved a demonic haunting of one kind or another, but for Blumhouse's next movie they're turning their attention to another source of horror. Here's an easy hint: the movie is called Dark Skies, and it's written and directed by Scott Stewart (Priest, Legion).

Blumhouse is trading families preyed upon by demons for a family targeted by something even more unearthly. At least that appears to be the case in the first trailer for the film. It sets the stage as expected, showing us a relatively normal family (headed by Kerri Russell and Josh Hamilton) who lead a normal life in the burbs, until one day strange marks start showing up on their son's body. Things only get creepier after that.

Warning, if you happen to have the same fear of the supernatural as I have confessed to, this trailer might just send a cold shiver down your spine by the time it ends.

Official synopsis:

From the producers of Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Sinister comes Dark Skies: a supernatural thriller that follows a young family living in the suburbs. As husband and wife Daniel and Lacey Barret witness an escalating series of disturbing events involving their family, their safe and peaceful home quickly unravels. When it becomes clear that the Barret family is being targeted by an unimaginably terrifying and deadly force, Daniel and Lacey take matters in their own hands to solve the mystery of what is after their family.

The Weinstein Company will release Dark Skies on February 22, 2013.
