'Conan' Star Jason Momoa Says He's Already Written a 'Conan the Barbarian' Sequel

Jason Momoa as ConanConan the Barbarian might not even be in theaters yet, but that hasn’t stopped star Jason Momoa from thinking about – and writing – a story for a sequel to the mighty warrior’s newest movie.

Crave Online recently sat down with the actor, and he spilled the beans on what the future might hold for the burly barbarian. While Momoa didn’t go into specifics, he did give audiences the gist of where he hopes to take the tale moving forward.

“It will mostly be… It’s character-adapted, because I really want to get into more of the mythical creatures, you know? We wanted to got there [in the first one], but having Clash of the Titans, and coming out against that, we wanted to put the budget into some other things. We Just couldn’t hit… We couldn’t get to that level with […] the visual effects and stuff.”

So, more mythical creatures sounds great – after all, Conan fought a giant snake in the original Schwarzenegger film and that worked out pretty well. However, Momoa’s quick to add that it won’t all be monsters – there’s room for characters in his sequel as well.

“I don't want to give anything away, but we already have our Conan, really it's about the villain, what that villain is going to extract from Conan, and where as an actor I want to go with Conan. You know, no one's going to know what I want to do better than me.”

Momoa’s clearly excited by the prospect of doing more than just acting in this potential franchise. “How many actors get to go in there and go, ‘I'm part of the writing process?’ and care that much about the character, because he is a fan himself? It's great. You know some people go like, "It's great, I'm going to be in my trailer." I want to @#$%ing make a great Conan movie.”

Only time will tell if the actor’s dream comes true. First, people have to see the new Conan film – which releases on August 19th – and then the studio has to decide they like Momoa’s story. Hopefully both things pan out – because a new series of Conan films would be a nice counter to the eight million superhero flicks at the multiplex every summer…
