This first film version of Eden Philpotts' play was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The story involves a roughhewn widowed farmer (Samuel Sweetland) in search of a new bride. Every candidate for the "title" proves insufficient, either because they fail to meet the farmer's exacting standards or because they want no part of him.
