Christopher Lambert Biography

  • Profession: Actor
  • Born: Mar 29, 1957
  • Died: Jan 1, 0001

Tall, good-looking French action hero and leading man Christopher Lambert is popular around the world, and in France, is particularly loved as a sex symbol. He was born in New York City, the son of a French psychiatrist and the former head of the United Nations Geneva division, but spent his youth in Geneva. Before entering the prestigious Paris Conservatoire to study acting, Lambert had worked with the London Stock Exchange. He remained there two years, but felt the program too constraining. After leaving, the aristocratic-looking Lambert appeared in [[Feature~V161441~Le Bar du Telephone~lebardutelephone]] and soon appeared in more films, but did not become a star until he played the leading role (in English) in Hugh Hudson's lush epic [[Feature~V20930~Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.~greystoke:thelegendoftarzanlordoftheapes]] (1984). Looking as good in period costumes as he did in a scanty loin cloth, Lambert soon found himself the newest sex symbol. He next appeared in [[Performer~P81731~Luc Besson~lucbesson]]'s [[Feature~V47521~Subway~subway]] (1985). In 1986's The Highlander, he played a sword-wielding immortal Scotsman who finds himself fighting evil in modern-day New York. He worked steadily, primarily in action films from that point on appearing in projects such as The Sicilian, Knight Moves, Fortress, Mortal Kombat, Nirvana, and The Target as well as numerous Highlander sequels. He appeared in the cult favorite 2006 sci-fi film Southland Tales, and in 2009 he appeared in one of the most critically respected films of his career, White Material. Three years later he was cast in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
