White Banners Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

Based on another of [[Performer~P217056~Lloyd C. Douglas~lloydcdouglas]]' "better living through faith" short stories, White Banners stars [[Performer~P58546~Claude Rains~clauderains]] as a chemistry professor who invents an icebox that requires no ice. The invention is stolen, throwing [[Performer~P58546~Rains~clauderains]] and his faithful young assistant [[Performer~P14823~Jackie Cooper~jackiecooper]] into a deep depression. [[Performer~P58546~Rains~clauderains]]' housekeeper [[Performer~P3331~Fay Bainter~faybainter]] buoys the inventor's spirits with her happy demeanor, wise homilies and good cooking. Through her influence, [[Performer~P58546~Rains~clauderains]] and [[Performer~P14823~Cooper~jackiecooper]] return to the lab and create an even more advanced refrigeration device. And just what is [[Performer~P3331~Bainter~faybainter]]'s stake in all this? Why, she's [[Performer~P14823~Cooper~jackiecooper]]'s long-lost mother...but don't you dare tell him. Though [[Performer~P3331~Fay Bainter~faybainter]] was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in White Banners, the film itself is so forgettable that it doesn't even rate a mention in most mass-market movie ratings books. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
