FULL SYNOPSIS

The 1929 massacre of Sephardic Jews by their Arab neighbors is the subject of this documentary, directed by Israeli husband-and-wife team Dan and Noit Geva. Jews and Arabs long coexisted peacefully in Palestine, but the arrival of a group of Zionist immigrants, as well as rumors of anti-Muslim violence in Jerusalem, led to Arab unrest in Hebron. The ensuing massacre took the lives of 67 men, women, and children, with many others raped or wounded. Although many Arabs took part in the mob brutality, several did their best to hide and protect their Jewish neighbors. A number of witnesses to the massacre, who were children at the time, provided interviews for this documentary; one invaluable written account came courtesy of filmmaker Noit Geva's late grandmother. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi
