The Lake House

Movie Info and Showtimes Posted on: Sep. 16, 2008 Release Date: Jun. 16, 2006

The Lake House Grade: C-
Who's in It: Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Christopher Plummer

The Basics: The magical mailbox sends Sandy and Keanu some letters back and forth in time. She lives in 2006. He lives in 2004. And they both get to mope around in this awesome, modernist, rich-person pad while they wait for the mail to come.

What's the Deal? Most contemporary love stories are about how the people involved are afraid of committing to the actual "being in love" part. They're all scared and dumb, and it takes a big Moment to get them to see how it could all be so simple if they'd just say yes to life. So this is a perfect movie for fans of that kind of thing, because the people in love get to be apart for pretty much the whole movie.

What Would Have Made It Better: A DeLorean with Michael J. Fox at the wheel to chauffeur them back and forth to each other.

Movie Math Somewhere in Time - period big hats + You've Got Mail - scenes of soulful typing + equally dorky voice-over reliance = Why Don't Reeves and Bullock Stick to Comedy? I remember Crash and Sweet November being really hilarious, and they should go do more movies like those.

Yearning for Dummies: You want to see a movie in which people really pine for each other, and it makes you ache? Go check out this great old one called I Know Where I'm Going!
