Synopsis:
When good friends Jocelyn (Maria Bello) and Bernadette (Kathy Baker) persuade Sylvia (Amy Brenneman) and her daughter Allegra (Maggie Grace) to start a Jane Austen Book Club with them, it is to distract Sylvia from her divorce from Daniel (Jimmy Smits). Deciding to read one book a month, they add to the group new acquaintances Prudie (Emily Blunt) and Grigg (Hugh Dancy), who is single and possibly a good match for Sylvia. For six months, the book club meets over friendly drinks and fancy dinners to discuss and debate each of Austen’s classics, opening themselves up in the process to new challenges and friendships. While their stories never completely parallel Austen’s plots, over time the six members find echoes, predictions, warnings and wisdom about their own personal and romantic lives within Austen’s beloved narratives and characters.
