The Heart of the Game Grade: B+
Who's in It: Ludacris (narrator), Bill Resler, Darnellia Russell, Joyce Walker

The Basics: Why do they even bother with fictional sports films when documentaries like this are so dramatic — with all the jaw-dropping turn-arounds, the last-second victories and stuff that you'd roll your eyes at if someone just made it up? Don't call it a girl Hoop Dreams, because it stands up on its own two feet just fine.

What's the Deal? I've said this before and I'll say it again: I hate sports. I don't like watching them. I don't follow any professional teams. I don't know first down from a full-court press, and I just don't care to find out the difference. And that's why you can trust me 100 percent when I say that a sports movie like this one is good. Because if it can sustain my interest and make me care, then it's doing its job correctly.

What Happens? Seattle high-school basketball prodigy Darnellia Russell has a fight on her hands when she has to lobby the state for eligibility to play. I won't go into spoiler details, but you'll be rooting for her all the way. Unless you're some kind of jerk.

Mean Girls: The moment when the 90-something female basketball player comes to visit is really incredible. You see old still photos of the young women playing in skirts and long sleeves. Contrast this to the scenes in the film of the featured women's team chanting "Kill! Kill! Kill!" before a game.

Mullet of the Year Award One of the female coaches in the movie has what can only be called an extreme mullet. It's like Billy Ray Cyrus came over and just took up residence on this woman's head.
