As is not uncommonly the case, American jazz performers find a welcoming home and are honored in Europe long after they have been forgotten in the U.S. This 1989 British documentary looks at the life and music of the celebrated black jazz singer Adelaide Hall, who debuted on Broadway in 1921, performed with all-black revues, and sang at the Cotton Club.
