Run of the House Details

In this independently produced spoof, a muscular black drag queen takes charge of a seriously dysfunctional Washington D.C. family, and the effects are all to the good. In the story, the thick-skinned ill-kempt and ill-mannered Issy picks Sady up in his cab and something about the manly drag queen's winning ways strikes a nerve. Never suspecting that Sady is not a woman, he falls in love with him. Meanwhile, Issy's wife, who secretly harbors lesbian fantasies, is putting on a dinner for some social-climbing friends of hers, and Sady is soon hired to cater it. Sady is also a fountain of life-changing advice for their astonishingly plain niece Tabby, when she gives her advice about her ambition to become Madonna. Sady gives even the family cat a leg up. Given the zany set-up, reviewers hoped this John Waters wannabe feature would follow through with genuine madcap frivolity; regrettably, the filmmaker opted for a more restrained production. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
