Cable On Demand
Cable offers VOD programming (same-day-as-disc releases, older titles and pre-theatrical exclusives) for rent, usually for 24- or 48-hour periods at prices from about $2.99 for older titles to $9.99 for new or exclusive releases. Since cable offers a direct connection from your cable provider, its VOD offerings are usually less prone to outside interference and can be streamed with surround sound and 3D when available.

Many movies have plot holes, and time travel movies typically have more holes than others, and Men in Black III has even more holes than most time travel movies. So how is it that so many people forgive an unnecessary sequel as simply being illogical yet fun? This is a question that's bigger than any having to do with the narrative of the movie, which understandably resembles swiss cheese because of a scatterbrained script development process and filming beginning before the plot was even finalized.

Admittedly, MIB3 is enjoyable at points (the few featuring Michael Stuhlbarg), but for me the real disappointment is that nothing in the movie is conceptually or visually fresh to warrant its existence. It's just Austin Powers 2 meets Back to the Future 2 meets the bare...

Man of Steel is just over a year away from hitting theaters and audiences are itching for news and anxiously awaiting the teaser trailer in front of The Dark Knight Rises on July 20, 2012. But shockingly, there has been no announcements about a video game tie-in. Fans and gamers have been wanting a good Superman game for years now and have mostly been disappointed with the results.

Batman Begins was released with a game for the Playstation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. It was a fun, but highly linear game that would ultimately pale in comparison to the next generation consoles’ Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games, which effectively replaced the need for a game released with the subsequent two films.

The first trailer for Starship Troopers: Invasion didn't do much but show off one of the various power suits used in the movie. This new teaser trailer, however, gives us a pretty decent idea of what director Shinji Aramaki is bringing to the world of space marines and arachnoids that Paul Verhoeven brought to life for the first time on the big screen 15 years ago.

Unsurprisingly, Invasion doesn't look wildly different from Aramki's biggest film to date, the 2004 anime Appleseed, only a bit more industrial and a little less cartoony. Some fans may not like the aesthetic, but at least it's not quite as bubbly and stiff as Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles.

Since the trailer doesn't give us a clear look at the story or the characters, we turn to the...

If you've seen Despicable Me, there's no doubt your favorite part of that movie revolves around those adorable little minions. They'll be back for more in Despicable Me 2, and we'll most likely see them starring in their own spin-off shorts (and maybe even a TV show) down the line, but until then we'll have to quench our minion thirst by obsessing over quirky fan art like this. Illustrator Introspect37 decided to have some fun with the minions while we wait for their next appearance by dressing them up as our favorite superheroes. What would an Avengers movie look like if it only starred the minions from the Despicable Me franchise? We're not saying we'd like to see that, but ... okay, we'd like to see that.

For a director, the only thing better than being invited to the Cannes Film Festival is being invited back. The 65th edition of the world's most prestigious fest featured works by several filmmakers who'd already walked the red carpet at the Palais des Festivals at least once. How did the alumni fare this time around? A brief report.

	Director: Cristian Mungiu

Previous Cannes entries: 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007, Palme d'Or winner); Occident (2002).

Cannes 2012 entry: Beyond the Hills.

The report: Mungiu's last film, about a woman seeking an illegal abortion in 1980s Romania, catapulted the previously little-known director into the international spotlight, at least within the art-house circuit. Very few critics panned 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, but...

Thanks to director’s commentaries, behind-the-scenes features, and the magic of the Internet, the casual film fan knows more about the art and craft of making movies than at any other time in history. Yet, while we know all about directors and special effects people and other important crew members who make movie magic a reality, one area that still seems shrouded in mystery is that of the digital animator.

It’s a sort of thankless gig – CGI special effects and features have changed movies and animation in a pretty serious way over the past few decades, but not everyone’s a fan. There’s always been a misconception that practical FX technicians were true “artists”, while the CGI guys were all just computer nerds – smart guys for sure...

Often when it comes to film nerd approved wearables, most fans usually focus on t-shirts leaving couture lovers in the cold. Enter designer Emily Steel, whose LED-savvy "Little Slide Dress" recreates the magic of cinema and fuses technology, art, and fashion. Steel told Design Taxi her dress was inspired by classic movies, and we couldn't be more enamored with it.

The designer's dress literally turns on when the lights are lowered, thanks to its ability to detect ambient sources through a sensor connected to a Arduino Lilypad. In bright lighting, the dress simply appears like a shiny, artful construction of slides. If you enjoy wearing your love of film on your sleeve (or skirt), visit Steel's Tumblr for more information.
