A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

Producer/director [[Performer~P113038~Joseph Strick~josephstrick]] continues his long cinematic love affair with the works of Irish author [[Performer~P36423~James Joyce~jimmyjoyce]] in Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. [[Performer~P32741~Bosco Hogan~boscohogan]] plays [[Performer~P36423~Joyce~jimmyjoyce]]'s alter-ego Stephen Daedelus, an irrepressible boy at eternal odds with the strictures of his Catholic home and family. As in his earlier adaptation of [[Performer~P36423~Joyce~jimmyjoyce]]'s Ulysses, [[Performer~P113038~Strick~josephstrick]] manages to successfully convey the liquidity and ideology of [[Performer~P36423~Joyce~jimmyjoyce]]'s challenging literary style. Also like [[Feature~V51636~Ulysses~ulysses]], however, the director is stronger with monologues than with visuals. [[Performer~P113038~Joseph Strick~josephstrick]]'s own son Terence plays the artist as an even younger man. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
