Paris by Night Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

British playwright [[Performer~P93432~David Hare~davidhare]] both wrote and directed the complicated political melodrama Paris By Night. [[Performer~P58664~Charlotte Rampling~charlotterampling]] plays a Tory member of the European parliament, who lets absolutely nothing get in way of her ambitions. At present, [[Performer~P58664~Rampling~charlotterampling]] is convinced that she is being blackmailed by her ex-business partner [[Performer~P58963~Andrew Ray~andrewray]]. Upon accidentally meeting [[Performer~P58963~Ray~andrewray]], [[Performer~P58664~Rampling~charlotterampling]] impulsively murders the man. In a deliciously ironic turn of events, she is approached by [[Performer~P58963~Ray~andrewray]]'s daughter [[Performer~P16333~Sinead Cusack~sinéadcusack]], who hopes that [[Performer~P58664~Rampling~charlotterampling]] will help her locate her missing dad. [[Performer~P58664~Rampling~charlotterampling]] eventually finds out [[Performer~P58963~Ray~andrewray]] had been innocent all along-but a greater shock awaits her at home, at the hands of her long-neglected husband [[Performer~P25729~Michael Gambon~michaelgambon]]. Paris By Night contains far too many cute coincidences to be credible, but this fact doesn't immediately sink in as the audience revels in the film's superlative performances and [[Performer~P93432~David Hare~davidhare]]'s adroit manipulation of people, places and events. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
