Oda Presernu Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

Miha (Martin Srebotnjak) is a would-be poet who has been using his skills to write jingles for an advertising agency in his native Slovenia. However, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Slovenia's greatest poet, France Preseren, is just around the corner, and a writing contest has been announced, with a hefty cash prize going to the author who best captures the importance of Preseren's work in verse. Miha decides to take a stab at creating a suitable entry, and his lamentable recent success with the ladies is certainly putting him in a creative frame of mind. But as Miha struggles to invoke the greatness of Preseren in words, the spirit of the acclaimed poet appears, offering advice on Miha's romantic and literary endeavors. Written and directed by comic actor Martin Srebotnjak, Oda Presernu was screened as part of the East of the West series at the 2001 Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
