This may sound like a suspect enterprise, a musical gimmick impossible to embrace, but the reality is otherwise. For what the members of this uncanny chorus lack in pure ability they make up for in irrepressible spirits and a desire to simply have fun.

The movie offers an encouraging vision of old age in which the depression commonly associated with decrepitude is held at bay by music making, camaraderie and a sense of humor.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this is a documentary about senior citizens, which might, to teens, sound like a snore. It isn't. The film is alive with music and resilience. But over the course of the movie, two chronically ill members of the chorus die and concerns of geriatric health and impending death are addressed.

  • Families can talk about aging. How do you stay young at heart? To what extent do mental rigor and physical activity play a role? What about community and friendship? Why do you think this group of seniors wanted to be a part of a band like this one?

The good stuff

Young@Heart by hectavex
Young@Heart is about a group of elderly people who travel to different countries and sing rock songs in concert, which delivers a strong message about those who were here before us. It is a wonderful do***entary which will make you laugh and cry, and while there are very very few movies which I think "everyone" should see, this is one of them.

What a movie by Wildjean
This is a fantastic movie. It ought to be required to become a middle ager even. It would even go over with teens I do believe. It certainly lifted me up and I have been telling EVERYBODY to go see it. I want to buy it. I want my library to buy it too. The comedy, the sadness, the prisoners, the chorus- it is all great. One could hardly leave that movie without being lifted up. I wish we could get this group into every senior home, every prison, every school. The colors, their philosophies, the music, the bit of dancing around, the songs, the lyrics, the way the lyrics are interpreted. It is all great. I just wish it had been longer. No drugs, no booze- maybe a little cursing but they are entitled. Go go go go see it Oh and I am 58 going on 15 after that movie

Fairy Tales Do Come True, It Can Happen To You, If You're [at] -- YOUNG@HEART: by jimchudnow
The above is the basic start of a once-popular song which has the same name as this wonderful film (except for "at" now being replaced by the web-updated "@" in the title). This do***entary covers singers (average age: 80) who, rather than giving up on life, have an uplifting ENTHUSIASM about living the time they have left. Rather than concentrate on old standards, the men and women work hard to sing popular ROCK songs along with other genres. The great thing about this film is the way the individual singers aren't afraid to be THEMSELVES, following their own "drummers" and sometimes-quirky senses of humor (because, at times they really ARE "characters"-- of the UNFORGETTABLE type). They have problems (physical, memory and otherwise) as they try to learn sometimes-difficult lyrics. But, they keep "plugging-away", never wanting to give up & wanting to give their ALL to their audiences. You'll likely get a real KICK out of this indomitable group as you laugh and cry along with them.

HOW TRUE TO LIFE by movie_oldsterbuff
What an awsome documentary. I could not stop smiling throughout most of the film. I did cry at a couple of spots but, that is what Life is. There was much more smiling than tears. I am a nurse and it made me want to go to the local nursing homes and try to find some "Young at Heart" people. There are so many who would love to do this instead of bingo 3 days aweek. Thank you for this film and thank you for letting me rate it.

Young @ Heart is Fantastic by iheartmoviess
Young @ Heart is one of the most inspiring movies I have seen in a long time. The film evokes a plethora of emotions from excitement to fear to hope to sadness. The movie follows the group of seniors as they embark on their mission to conquer 7 new songs for their upcoming shows. You have an opportunity to witness men and women nearing the end of life and ebrasing the time they have left and loving every moment of it. You can't miss this one!

The most uplifting movie I have seen in a long time. Took my 78 year old mother who suffers from depression and she was very moved by the movie. Recommend everyone see it, as your never to old to have fun!!! and enjoy your life despite your age and ailments.

Young At Heart by scholder
A delight. Touching, involving, funny, moving, honest. In a made by committee era, when movies are cooked up by marketing geniuses rather than by creative minds this is a most welcome exception. More, more!
