    Village Voice

It's some kind of monster of romanticized antiromanticism, filleting and exalting its characters, cheating and rewarding its breathless audience. The closest the film gets to a thesis is this shoulder-shrug torpedo: "People do things like that without knowing why."

Unforgivable isn't one of Mr. Téchiné's greatest achievements, but it's engrossing even when its increasingly populated story falters, tripped up by unpersuasive actions, connections and details.

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Téchiné is a restless director, a fastidious storyteller who is not interested in what less adventurous movies have to say about human relationships. He wants to dig deeper, even if the results aren't always clear.

In his elliptical and somewhat loopy drama about the slipperiness of love at any age, French filmmaker André Téchiné uses the sight of scudding motorboats on the waterways around workaday Venice as a visual reinforcement of time as a river.

What makes the film involving is that it doesn't depend on the mechanical resolution of the plot, but on the close observation of its effects on these distinctive characters.

Very good movie; very introspective by cricketscamp
I really liked this movie. I thought that it did a wonderful job of examining human relationships (and the complexities) and the relationship that one has with oneself. The way that the movie does this is very nuanced so if you are not paying close attention to everyone's actions (even facial expressions), you may miss it. At the end of the movie, it will all come together (if you have been paying attention). These are the types of movies that I enjoy most. I will say, however, that if you are looking for the type of movie that almost ties up all loose ends, then this is not for you. It leaves a lot of questions, which may be one of the points of the movie, but it can be frustrating if you want a conclusion to some of the stories that surface within the movie. So, while I enjoyed the movie, my husband found it very disjointed for those reasons.

Unforgivable by anotherplanet
Unforgivable is a rather captivating and compelling movie that explores the complexities of human relationships on several different levels and the way love forces us to navigate the vicissitudes of life, and our ability to transcend our idiosyncrasies and insecurities in order to manage a better life.
