The Man of My Life Grade: C+
Who's in It: Charles Berling, Léa Drucker, Bernard Campan

The Basics: Straight guy meets gay guy, and they talk. And talk. And, of course, that automatically also means that there's suddenly sexual tension going on. And because it's a French movie and it's set at a summer house (along with good wine, universal health care and incredible pastries, those vacation homes are one of the assumed perks of living there), there's going to be some exploration.

What's the Deal? I'm sure, given that the world is full of all kinds of stories, that this sort of gay/straight mashup thing does, in fact, happen. Someone out there is always figuring out his or her sexuality. But wouldn't it be cooler if there were more movies where hetero and homo friends just existed in the same universe, and the movie was about something else entirely besides how fascinating that difference is? Are we not there yet?

The Point: Everyone's searching. Everyone's possibly bisexual. Everyone likes to hang out at summer houses. I think. Well, about the last one I'm certain.

One Thing You Can Always Count on in French Movies Like This: Even if they're not gay, the men are always talking about life and love and the meaning of relationships and stuff like that. It's like they're immunized from talking about football. I have no idea how authentic this is to real French male cultural life. But their films sure are great at selling the idea of a sophisticated population.

See It If: You're desperate for a sub-Eric Rohmer experience. But then you could just go watch an Eric Rohmer movie if you are, in fact, desperate.
