Too often Durst's direction is overly earnest, heavy in long takes, atmosphere wise but scene foolish.

Ritter, who's like the young Ethan Hawke on a bender of violence, is an actor to watch.
Although the impressively acted ensemble piece occasionally gets tripped up by Peter Elkoff's overtly literate script, it travels in some unexpected, thoughtful directions.

Good movie and Jason Ritter is hot! by MDnotDOC I went to see this with my best friend and she and I fell in love with Jason Ritter. Of course it was a good movie also. I wish it had shown a little bit more of the way Jason Ritter grew up but other than that it was a great story.
GREAT by peetga I live in LA but I grew up a few blocks from where Charlie Banks was set in New York. I am a frequent "art house movie goer" and thought this feel good story and the up and coming cast played well off eachother. I prefer films like this over most other styles of film today. Glad to see the other reviews on here agree.
