A deserted island movie during which I desperately wished the characters had chosen one movie to take along if they were stranded on a deserted island, and were showing it to us instead of this one.

A bad movie. No amount of perfume sprayed on talk show audiences by Madonna and her husband can eliminate the stench of failure emanating from this motion picture.

Ritchie made a movie that never pretends to be more than a guilty pleasure of soft-core kitsch, and Madonna and Giannini (son of Giancarlo, costar of the original) achieve a lively S&M chemistry.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

not for kids

What a waste of potential.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this movie contains strong language, some violence, and a near-rape. Amber's verbal domination of Giuseppe on the boat is disturbing, but his physical domination of her on the island is completely unsuitable for younger children (and many adults).

  • Families can talk about the power politics in relationships. How is the power dynamic of domination and submission affected by situations beyond the characters' control? How does money influence the actions of the different characters?
