Abercrombie & Fitch model Guzman looks every bit the metrosexual romantic lead, but also makes a credible partner for So You Think You Can Dance star McCormick. Fortunately, neither is called upon to stretch too far in the acting department and both are able to get by with good looks and flashy moves.

OK, OK. They're good dancers, and well-choreographed. You can see the movie for that and be charitable about the moronic plot.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

OK for kids 12+

Dance movie is formulaic but boasts some fun sequences.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that, like all of the Step Up films, Step Up Revolution is a fun, fairly harmless trifle (unless you consider fantastic dance sequences featuring skimpily clad dancers dangerous), even though it's not particularly deep or memorable. Tween and teen girls will be drawn to the tale of a good girl who meets an edgy guy and wants to join his dance crew -- you can expect some displays of rebellion, usually in the form of a disruptive flash mob and some graffiti tagging, and plenty of sensual dance moves. There's some social drinking and a bit of swearing ("a--hole," "damn," one "s--t"), too.

  • Families can talk about Step Up Revolution's messages -- standing up for what you believe in and aiming high with your goals. How does it convey these messages?
  • Why do you think the crew becomes more brazen with each flash mob? How do you feel about becoming a consumer of videos made specifically to get clicks, regardless of content?
  • Given the crew's presumably honorable motivations, can their law-breaking be excused?

The good stuff
  • message true2

Messages: The movie's main take-aways are to defend what you believe in and aim high to reach your goals. That said, the flash mob squad at the heart of the film does take pride in breaking laws to get the attention they want on YouTube.

  • rolemodels true2

Role models: The two leads are both passionate, kind, and driven -- qualities that are admirable in anyone.

What to watch for
  • violence false2

Violence: A fistfight erupts after a particularly aggressive dance sequence. In one scene, dancers use smoke canisters while wearing gas masks and police vests; it's not violent, but it's eerie/creepy.

  • sex false2

Sex: Sexy dance moves aplenty, as well as some innuendoes and kissing.

  • language false2

Language: Language includes one "s--t," "damn," "a--hole," "ass," "hell," "oh my God," and "crap."

  • consumerism false3

Consumerism: Labels spotted or mentioned fairly often include Apple, YouTube, Nike, Dell, Cadillac, and more.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false2

Drinking, drugs and smoking: Social drinking, usually beer or wine, in dance clubs and bars.

Loved this movie. Best dance movie I have seen in a very long time. I can honestly say this movie made my personal top ten list of good dance movies and let's just say I am 40 + This movie was also non stop entertaining from beginning to end. Fantastic choreography, great dancers and just very entertaining. Thank You - Thank You - Thank You to everyone who worked so hard to make this movie happen. Accompanying me at the movie was a 7 , 17 and 19 year old. All three of them enjoyed the dancing and music.

STEP UP REVOLUTION by princessamasana
Watching all the previous Step Up movie, seeing this one was a Must. I kind of been a skeptic because some sequels to the original movies are not as good as the original one, but this one is the complete opposite. It's like the whole Step Up series are getting better and better every time another sequel comes out, it out do the one previous to it.

If you feel that some movies don't have enough dancing, you will not be disappointed when you see this one. I would totally see it again :)

Step Up Revolution hit the top most step! by Shelley413
I totally enjoyed this movie. Having never seen any of the previous Step Up movies, I did not know what to expect. But I ended up loving the storyline, and the characters, and of course all the dance moves!!!! Older teens would like it, and of course young people in their 20's-30's too. I am in my 50's...just a big kid at heart. Go see it as it has no violence at all, and that is rare in this day and age.

Best Step Up Yet! by janetandleeg
The sheer number of dancers and the quality of dancing in this movie was outstanding! The plot and dialogue seems the best of the Step Up movies thus far, in my opinion, especially the flash mob idea. Watching the preparation for the flash mobs added a level of action that was exciting. Seeing familiar faces from So You Think You Can Dance was a bonus, too. If you love dance of all genres this movie is definitely for you!

Excellent Movie. You Have to go See this. by donczar56
If you like Choreography and like dance, you will absolutely love this movie. Adam Shenkman never ceases to amaze me with his brilliant Choreography, Directing and his upbeat and positive attitude which certainly shows in this movie. I LOVED THIS MOVIE! Thank you for making a movie that made me want to get up and dance in the aisles of the theater. I think it's great that some of the actors were former dancers from the show "So You Think You Can Dance" and Mia Michaels as part of the cast was a definite plus. The plot of this movie was a good one. Kept me interested. The actors were more than pleasant to look at and the Dancing was absolutely the best I have ever seen. Mr. Shenkman, you did it again and thank you..
