Since the new pic contains little that's genuinely amusing or minimally original, it likely will fail on its own merits.

Less sex comedy and more Seth comedy would have made for a much livelier excursion.

For Families provided by Common Sense Media

Iffy for 16+

Vulgar teen sex comedy lacks verve and vision.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that this hard-R high school sex comedy -- which is squarely aimed at teens -- is "Judd Apatow lite," meaning that it has all the crassness of Apatow's comedies but not nearly as much heart or brilliance. It centers around a high school senior who's fixed on losing his virginity with the help of a girl he met on the Internet. The road trip to see her is pockmarked with one over-the-top sequence after the next, many of which feature nudity, graphic discussions of sex acts, sex toys, and more. There's also plenty of underage drinking and lots of swearing (including "f--k").

  • Families can talk about the consequences of underage drinking. How realistic is what happens to the teen characters in this movie? What do you think would happen to them in real life if they got drunk? Families can also discuss whether the film portrays teens -- and, by extension, teen life -- accurately? If so, how? What issues does the film address? Was Ian's decision to drive so far to tryst with a stranger adventurous or foolhardy? What about his intent pursuit of losing his virginity? Why is it so important to him? Is that realistic?

The good stuff
  • message true0

Messages: Teens have sex with complete strangers, though it's worth noting that they're also shown shopping for condoms. Friends are loyal to one another, even when their bonds are tested. Parents seem downright invisible. Some sexist and homophobic jokes.

What to watch for
  • violence false2

Violence: A man in a truck tries to mow down a naked teenager he catches having sex with his wife. Lots of yelling. Two brothers can't seem to stop fighting; the older one likes to beat up on the younger. Gunshots are fired, and a gun is brandished.

  • sex false5

Sex: Characters listen in on others having sex; bare breasts are exposed, as well as a man's testes. Lots of talk about sex: how to have it, what makes it fun. The film opens with a teenager having a dream about someone performing a sex act on him (oral sex is implied). A sex toy features prominently in one scene. Online sex chats are shown onscreen. Characters hook up with strangers, some of whom are married.

  • language false4

Language: Frequent and crude; includes everything from "bitch" and "goddamn" to "c--ksucker" and "f--k."

  • consumerism false3

Consumerism: Mentions of Trapper Keeper notebooks and other products, plus logos for Lifestyles condoms, Pontiac GTO, Vans shoes, and Senor Donut.

  • drugsalcoholtobacco false4

Drinking, drugs and smoking: Loads of teenage drinking, often to excess. Little discussion of the consequences, including drinking and driving. Some allusions to drug use.

Top notch performances all across the board. by MovieMath101
I thought every body in this movie was hysterical, and will definetly open the eye's for casting directers for all the major roles (Josh Zuckerman, Clark Duke, Amanda Crew, James Marsden, Seth Green) I actually saw the 12:01 am showing for the movie, by myself, just because I wanted to see this movie that badly. I wasn't expecting too many laughs, I thought the trailor showed everything worth seeing. I was shocked at how much I laughed throughout this movie. The only part I didn't enjoy, (you've all seen it) was with the idiot cop trying to taze him and pepper spray him. If it's any thing that I hate in movies, it's dumb cops. DUMB COPS DO NOT BELONG IN MOVIES. It's the most annoying thing you could possibly do to a devoted movie goer. (SUCH AS MYSELF) But yeah, go see this movie, lot's of laughs, beautiful girls, and raunchy humor. Perfect recipe to a good movie, if you ask me.

Sexdrive= The epitome of comedy! by SWaesche
Sexdrive is without doubt the best comedy that I have seen in years, and additionally the best comedy to hit theaters in years, in my opinion. Its clever lines and awkward situations guaranteed humor from start to finish. Also contributing to this film is its cast. No one could have done better than Josh Zuckerman, James Marsden's performance was timeless and Seth Green delivered as expected. And I can't not mention the GTO Judge, it's awesome that the car used in this movie was a classic muscle car (& not a Camaro or Mustang but a less heard of car with a phenomenal reputation and tons of ageless appeal) rather than the generic cars used for teens in other movies. Ten thumbs up, I would, and almost have recommended this movie to everyone that I know.

good for teens by kaz703
This movie has the typical crass humor associated with teen flicks. I think I'm a little too old (i'm 30) to find it out loud funny. There are parts that were cleaver, but a lot of it was just too silly. This is not to say that all crass humor is bad. Superbad, for example was silly but still funny for someone my age.

worth it by thedarKnight
this movie wasnt like every typical teen movie with over the top fluff comedy...it had humor that was realistic and made it much more funny. more a a superbad type where the dialog makes the movie funny. (definitely not as good as superbad) this movie i would say was more of a romantic comedy in the end...the dynamics between the two main characters was great. really helped the movie when theres chemistry. chick is very fine too, ups the ante a little bit there. i am recommend this movie to anyone looking for a easy going funny movie....worth the price of admission.

Funny. Somewhat predictable, but funny. Laughed out loud many times.

This movie blows. by JMerison
I'm eighteen, and I went with a bunch of friends thinking this movie was going to be another party movie with plenty of thing we could relate to, but honestly they tried way too hard to make this movie funny. There were parts where we laughed when it was supposed to be serious. The main character is too soft, unlike main characters in Harold and Kumar. Don't see this movie in theaters unless you want to hear the same jokes over and over.

Sex Drive by lumberjack0125
It is a dumb movie that is very predictable, but I laughed my butt off. Marsden and Green made the movie for me and outside of them there are a few laughs but not much. Worth watching if you want something brainless.

Really funny! by movielover3000
Loved this movie except the unrated version is really inappropiate for kids because there is nudity every 5-10 minutes. Great movie and lots of laughs!

Not just another teen movie. by ryguy32789
From the opening scene, you would think this is another 'American Pie'. It is far wittier though, with lots of fresh humor and a great, deeper-than-most-teen-movies plot.
