Odd-couple buddy cop flick is violent, predictable, but fun.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Ride Along is a buddy cop comedy with lots of gunplay, fistfights, and car chases, and a few impressive explosions. Some scenes include lots of blood, but the movie's less-than-serious tone makes the action seem less brutal. Expect moderate swearing (mostly variations on "s--t") and some creative sexual innuendo.
Families can talk about the movie's take on video game violence. Ben appears to tap into skills he learned playing them, but does the film gloss over any downsides?
How does a movie's tone affect the impact of violent content?
Was it surprising to learn who the bad guys are? What do you think drove the choices they made?
The good stuff
Messages: Even the toughest of us must sometimes learn to trust, and rely upon, others. You might even realize that other people are willing and eager to help out.
Role models: Ben clearly loves his fiance, and is willing to do almost anything to win the approval of her stern brother, James. However, James is initially unwilling to give his future brother-in-law a chance, and gives him a very difficult time before he gets to know him. Ride Along doesn't try to portray women in more than a damsels-in-distress role, however. Its sole female character does little more than argue, look pretty, and need rescuing.
What to watch for
Violence: Quite a lot of explosions, gunfights, hand-to-hand combat, and other mayhem, which is partly offset by the movie's comedic tone. Some characters get shot, and bleed profusely but don't die. One scene includes thugs threatening a prisoner with a knife. The film also shows a gamer playing violent videogames, which is portrayed as an important source of expertise for a cop-to-be.
Sex: No sex or nudity, though there's some passionate kissing. A few scenes feature very colorful innuendo. One character makes numerous references to the size of his penis.
Language: A moderate amount of swearing, including "bitch," "p---y," "ass" and several variations of "s--t."
Consumerism: The characters spend much of the movie driving in a Dodge Charger. During a high-speed chase, a cop in sudden need of a vehicle rejects a Toyota Prius, which he disparages as unsuitable for his needs. One character wears a Nike athletic shirt, and is excited to discuss its wicking properties. Several well-known gun manufacturers are mentioned by name.
Drinking, drugs and smoking: One quick scene shows people with beers at a party.

Go See!!!!! by Librachica
It was a funny take on the movie Training Day. I thought that the acting was great and finding out the identity of Omar was a nice little touch.

This movie was great. I expected good, funny, but predictable. Forget it...! What you expect is not what you get. It was full of twists, everybody had their funny on. It was hurt your stomach funny because as soon as you stopped laughing, you'd start again. Although, it is a typical plot - good cop framed by bad cops...the fact that it was written around unpredictable characters, made it refreshing. I feel Kevin Hart loses some of his funny when he's scripted. He needs more reign in his movie projects. I pre-purchased my ticket to ensure it would not be sold-out without me seeing it, and glad I did. Loved it!

Funny. Yet not as funny as I was expecting. Most comedians that appear with Ice Cube generally make his movies. I love them both. I wanted alot more from them both. In all a fairly great movie!

I am a big Kevin Hart fan and the movie was good. What was disappointing was the previews of the movie showed the funniest parts so when you watched the movie, the good parts were already known to me. I feel the previews should entice you to see the movie but should not reveal so much that it let's you down in the end.
For example, the best previews of any movie I have ever experienced was for Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore's Ghost. The previews just said Ghost, it will make you believe. It ended up being one of the best movies I ever saw.
Date Night by ginahudo
Saturdays are date night for me and the other half... We love going to see comedy movies.... This movie had our faces hurting from laughing so much.. Kevin Hart is one of my favorite actors, so, I had no doubt that it was going to be great.........
Big Kevin Hart Fan by adamperkel
They showed a few of the funniest scenes in the previews, but there were still plenty more to be seen. Ice Cube isn't an actor, but I think they just needed someone that looks angry all the time to play the older brother. He's good for that. Kevin Hart doesn't disappoint. He's funny as ever.
It was good! by zondrajones39
My family and I went to see ride along last night. Some parts were hilarious and some were not so much. BUT over all I'd recommend this movie. kevin Hart is a fool and Cube is great also..
Better than I planned by Niqueman
To be honest I was a little skeptical because of the premise for the movie, but they did a great job. It's funny and silly and all of the things you need to make you laugh. Kevin was perfect as the comical sidekick.
Great Family Time by hopkins889
My 11 year old daughter is a huge Kevin Hart fan. She laughed the entire time. The dynamic between Hart and Cube is hilarious. The film was one of their best and very age appropriate for a younger audience. We had a great time! The only down side is my husband keeps saying "Black Hammer"!!!! LOL
