Iffy for 16+
Zombie sequel is just as grisly as the first two.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that this video game-based zombie movie features extremely gross and graphic violence, with many disgusting deaths. People are in extreme peril, and most of the main characters -- even sympathetic ones -- wind up slain grotesquely. There's some swearing (though maybe not quite as much as you'd expect, considering the butchery and the R rating) and non-sexual nudity. The heroine is a courageous and capable woman, and the good guys are a nicely multicultural bunch (even if they don't last the duration). Some of the background story might be confusing if you haven't seen the two previous movies.
- Families can talk about the appeal of zombie-gore movies. How does the action in the Resident Evil movies compare to that in films like Night of the Living Dead and 28 Days Later? Which is spookier? Why? You can also compare the Resident Evil movies to the video games they're based on. Which is more entertaining -- the interactive zombie-killing experience, or the passive one? For more facts about media and violence, see our guide.
The good stuff
-
Messages: Characterizations don't go very deep. Most of the "good guys" are striving to protect a convoy of the uninfected (including children), but they sometimes treat zombie killing as a sport. Villains (besides the ravenous mutated zombies, who can't help themselves) are the remaining authority figures, such as medical scientists (so callous and power-mad they even let their own colleagues get killed) and evil-businessman types -- who are all white males, by the way. That said, the good guys are nicely multicultural, and Alice is a courageous and capable woman.
What to watch for
-
Violence: Frequent carnage inflicted on humans and zombies (including dogs mutated into half-rotten zombies). Impalings, squashings, slashings, burnings, and more; one zombie is pinned by a crossbow bolt, and a crow subsequently pecks out his eye. Humans are bitten by zombies, and countless zombies are shot through the skull. Monstrous tentacles squeeze out a man's eyes. A threat of rape at one point.
-
Sex: Some characters allude to hot dates, but there's no sexual action. Non-sexual female nudity (in the form of clones suspended in fluid sacs in fetal positions) is viewed mainly in profile. One grotesque female zombie has a bare breast.
-
Language: "S--t" and "bitch" are used, though more at PG-13 levels than R. "A--hole" is a punchline over the closing credits.
-
Consumerism: Product names visible on computers, cell phones, and vehicles. Ruins of prominent Las Vegas casinos are identifiable. And, of course, there's the fact that the movie is inspired by a popular video game.
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: Brief marijuana smoking, social drinking.

A bit exagerating by Lorant
When I first saw Resident Evil(I'm talking about the first part) I didn't know what I was watching, but I promised miself that I'll do whatever it takes to find out what will happen next (if your really wondering,Milla Jovovich grabbed my interest in the movie to not watch something else :).After I watched the movie,my oppinion about it was that it's the best sci-fi horror movie I have ever seen! The hype was incredibly good, the characters the scene of action, and etc was just perfect and something new.BUT then I saw RE2.I was excited about it.It started like I hoped it would, but after a while it got,well...you kind of new what would have happened. And after I watched it fully,I just realised that between the 1 and the second part there was a large gap(so on was between 2 and 3).I thought the producers want to make the movie misterious, wich in the end of the series it would come out,and you would understand the hole storyline.BS,it was rushed. It still has questions unanswered.Maybe RE 4?

Milla by Daydream
I dont remember much of the first two Resident Evils, but I went into this movie to see if it was as good as people say it is. This movie definately has suspense. Im not a big jumper in movies, but there were times when something would just POP out and shock you. Milla is not only beautiful, but she shows her wild side. Great heroine with some killer moves. The zombie make-up was also very very well done. Im not a big fan of the zombie movies, but this was ok. Lil slow to open up with some good action scenes. I would wait to rent it...

Good Sequel by TheRealHades
It was a pretty good sequel for the movie franchise. Much better than the second one as it brought back the elements of fear and survival. Now if you go into this hoping to see it based on the games or novels, you will be let down. But if you go in looking at it from its own universe made for the movie franchise, it fits just nicely. The only real beef I had with this film is that it seemed to end very abrupt. Almost like the script writer just died 10 pages before he finished writing. This could be their way of leaving it open, or just a quick way to wrap everything up. Won't know for sure unless they announce a Resident Evil 4. Worth a day time price to see, but if you liked the films, a night price isn't out of the question.

Resident Evil "Extinction" is Aptly named by Patthemoviebuff
The third movie of the trilogy, Resident Evil will no doubt let down the millions of fans that is has created due to two very solid installment outings. "Extinction" is aptly named as it's a movie who's un-inspried action-sequences, sub par acting, tired special effect shots, and a "I've got more holes than the bodies at the OK Corral"plot will do a great injustice to a wonderful and beautiful actor named Mila and put the series to bed-making it extinct.
However, to be fair, I did enjoy roughly 4 minutes of the movie. More if you count the trailers.
Get this on a rental and watch Shoote em Up or 3:10 to Yuma instead.

They're running out of ideas by Stevuke
The first one was truly novel. The second one was a clever way to have an interesting sequel. And for this one, they clearly ran out of material. The various subplots did not connect well and seemed to be ways to just grasp for random ideas to put into the film.
Can't give it the lowest rating because the acting was strong.

I've seen better.... by xchunter391
Truthfully the movie started off in the right direction however some plot and explanations seemed a little weak. The end fight sequence was not nearly as good as the previous movie. Although I will say the cast and acting was absolutly great. The fault for not making this a great movie instead of a decent one is entirely the writing. Not so much what the characters said but lets face it (caution spoilers) stealing a helicopter when you don't know how much gas it has and even if fully fueled you can't make it where your going and to top it off the story on all but one "good guy" ends there. You never find out if they made it or not.
They should have had a longer movie that would have made things more interesting.
On the plus side they left it wide open to another movie and if this next one is given a large enough budget and good enough writers then it could end up being far better than extinction.

This is not Resident Evil by jack_rhien
I'm sorry, but this movie was sheer disappointment. Some average acting overall (while Jovovich improved, Epps was seriously worse), a rather stupid storyline with silly plot elements (I can't say anything without giving it away), and once, the game characters weren't true to their digital incarnates. I can't believe this movie was made. I hope they don't make a fourth one because it will do an awesome serious injustice.

RE3 Extinction by BladeCaptain
We saw the Midnight showing, and it was Well worth it. some parts actualy caught me off guard, and thats rare... And though it says its the last one... with this ending, who can really say.
Alice has developed farther than I imagined, but I have to say, its a very kewl twist. Also, I Really Want the Sound Track! the Music was Fantastic!

Disappointing by 51ducatigt
Weakest of the 3 RE movies. Some good action scenes but overall not great.
