… like Yours, Mine and Ours, but with machine guns.

Who's in It: Hend Ayoub, Mohammed Bakri, Lior Miller, Arin Omary

The Basics: An Israeli army squad occupies the home of a Palestinian family that stubbornly refuses to leave. It's kind of like Yours, Mine and Ours, but with machine guns.

What's the Deal? There will be some who hate that this movie even exists — as in, how dare anyone suggest that Israel bullies the Palestinians, etc. — but that's exactly why it should. It's based on real-life incidents, and it's bold enough to suggest a sort of ironic Diary of Anne Frank scenario. And depending on the strength of your feelings about the Middle East's never-ending conflict, you'll think it's either thought-provoking and balanced or anti-Zionist propaganda.

So Which One Is It? Thought-Provoking and Balanced or Anti-Zionist Propaganda? Mostly balanced. In fact, the character direction of the movie paints the soldiers as just a bunch of young guys doing a job they'd sooner not be saddled with.

What's Really Good About It: Bakri, as the stern Palestinian father, an academic who demands that his family members stand their ground on principle, announcing that "being a refugee is not being," and that his children would never forgive him if he gave in and ran from the house. In fact, it's his wish that they not grow up to hate Israelis that gives the movie its real power.

What's Really Not: The last two minutes, when absurdly circular plot stuff kicks in and then a Roger Waters song about the futility of war is suddenly blasting on the soundtrack. You'll be like, "Dude, we get it already."

Horror-o-Meter: Seven out of 10; there are lots of terrifying moments when the kids are trapped in gunfire exchanges.
