It's an undeniably small yet almost indefinable film, warmhearted and bittersweet, laced with both humor and tough emotions. Plus it has a kind of bicoastal appeal.
Streetwise, kinetic and solidly dramatic, Prince of Broadway is a convincingly character-driven tale set in a clandestine universe -- the realm of stolen and/or counterfeit fashions that exists in the no man's land of Manhattan's West 20s.
The movie is sharp, charismatic and so light on its feet we never know which way it will turn.
Admirably resourceful, Prince of Broadway thrives in that increasingly fertile stylistic niche combining documentary and narrative aesthetics.
