Iffy for 16+
Alien-fighting sequel is heavy on sci-fi violence.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that, like its predecessors (including 1987's Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger), Predators is a very violent sci-fi action movie. The alien creatures are deadly hunters, and the human fighters who are forced to deal with them are killers and mercenaries in their own right. Expect lots of fantasy violence, including guns, knives, fighting, blood, and gore. Humans and aliens are shot and killed, and there are scary moments when unseen things leap out from the shadows. There's lots of strong language, including "f--k" and "s--t," and in one scene, a character briefly speaks of "doing cocaine" and "raping some bitches" when he gets home.
- Families can talk about the film's violence. What impact does it have? Is it thrilling and exciting, or disturbing? Why?
- Was the movie scary? Why or why not?
- How does this movie compare to others in the Predator franchise? What does it have in common with them? What sets it apart?
- What's the difference between being "alive" and being "human"?
The good stuff
-
Messages: Ultimately, the movie's story brings together the worst of humanity and puts them in a violent hunting situation. Even though it also addresses the question of what it means to be "alive" versus what it means to be "human," even that issue is muddled -- It's possible for the characters to stay alive by doing terrible things, so where do you draw the line? That said, some of the characters do learn to survive by relying on one another, working together, and empathizing with one another.
-
Role models: None of the characters here are clear-cut positive role models -- they're painted as the worst of humanity. But Isabelle does help bring the stranded humans together, bridging relationships between the other characters. She also shows more empathy than her colleagues, but doesn't let it become a weakness; she's as tough as any of them.
What to watch for
-
Violence: Basically one long battle, the movie is heavy on fantasy violence, with lots of guns and ammo, ranging from pistols to huge, rapid-fire automatic weapons. Some characters also carry and use knives. Characters are shot, with spattering blood. The predators are beheaded, with lots of (green) blood and gore. Alien "dogs" are shot and killed. Scary moments include things jumping out from the shadows. One male character talks about raping women.
-
Sex: A little bit of flirting between two characters. Another character makes a comment about a woman's anatomy ("your ass is awesome").
-
Language: "F--k" is used around three dozen times, in several permutations. "S--t" is used less often but also several times. Other words include "God" (as an exclamation), "ass," "t-ts," "damn," "hell," "goddamn," and "bitch."
-
Consumerism: Not an issue
-
Drinking, drugs and smoking: No onscreen drugs, but one character talks about how he wants to "do so much cocaine" when he gets home.

An Entertaining yet Typical Sci Fi Adventure by luv_scary_muvees
Predators has quite a large name to live up to, because inspite of all the terrible spin-offs, the original predator was and still is an amazing film. The story is a typical cut and paste "must get off this planet" mission, but it is the supreme cast which does an admittedly mediocre job that really drives through the story. With a great cast, the story is driven, and often slices up adventurous action with comical dialogue spoken during the many scenes of marching. It did contain a supremely well done plot twist, which is sure to surprise, as well as a well done ending. Hardcore fans with just love seeing more of the Predators, while some who think this movie is going to be as good as the first will be disappointed, but none the less entertained.
Overall, probably one of the more entertaining films of the summer. Recommended.

Not too much new here by LinW0724
Compared to the other Predator movies, this movie is a change of setting. You're missing Arnold and you're not on Earth. The movie is the same as the other Predator movies with slight variation, but who doesn't like a classic on-screen, bloody brawl?

Predators by Natasha Ryan
I am a 58 year old grandmother who took my 11 year old grandson to see this. Although there is some cursing in there, I wouldn't say he doesn't hear it on television so it didn't really bother me.
My grandson loved it. The big surprise was that I quite enjoyed it as well!

Decent Flick by cybanez
Predators was pretty good. Nothing will ever compare to the first Predator though. Definitely worth watching on the big screen.

If your a Predator fan, you will enjoy. by AlfredPhillips
I never take the time to write reviews, but I must say I was so pleasantly surprised by Predators that I figured I should spread the word. While the film can never live up to the first one, it certainly surpasses Predator II and the two AVP disasters. Adrien Brody did a really great job and certainly came a long way from The Pianist and there is definitely life in this franchise. It's sad that the film wasn't well advertised and has somewhat limited distribution. If you like Science Fiction and like Predator, take a few hours, spend a few bucks and enjoy. With any luck, there may be another film that explores these cool aliens.

Ignore AvP, this is the true experience by Duskburn
Not sure why people say it's so badly written. Maybe these are the same people that think the plagiarism of the Twilight Saga is so great. I loved it; it was very true to the original spirit of the Predator and anyone who read the comics from Dark Horse knows it. I can't wait to see a sequel and watch war between the Predator tribes! Only problem I had was towards the end: what was Topher Grace's character, the serial killer doctor, planning to do with Isabelle? I mean seriously, did he think the Preds were going to just leave the two of them alone long enough for him to do naughty things to her? Don't get that or how he recognized a toxin producing flower on a completely different planet....all I can think is that the Preds planted it there. Otherwise, it was great to watch Topher Grace's character get what was coming to him. After his prima donna shenanigans with the third Spiderman, it was fun to see him get what he deserved. I must say, he surprised me with how well he fooled me.

PREDATORS by doealum2
Well, I new shortly after the movie started it was going to be slow/a flop. It was not worth spending your money to see it at the Theater. I was doubly upset that Lawrence Fishborne's character was only in the movie for about 10 minutes. I thought that this movie would show more about the Predators themselves. We know just as much about them as the first movie which is that they enjoy the game of killing and hunting humans. The movie's ending was weak, but you know they left it open for another film to follow. This movie lacked a lot of action and really had no plot. I thought that the people they dropped on this unknown planet would have been more equipped to fight, somehow more organized. I was ultimately very dissapointed with this movie. Well without telling you everything, don't waste your money, wait until it hits DVD and watch it to kill time one day. I also would like to know what some of these folks who rated the movie a MUST GO have on their minds?
