not for kids
Bloody, sexed-up sequel lacks predecessor's camp appeal.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Piranha 3DD is a sequel to 2010's surprisingly successful (and entertaining, in a very over-the-top way) Piranha 3D, which was itself a remake of a 1978 movie. While this one unfortunately lacks whatever made the previous movie work, it's just as packed with strong violence, including lots of blood, severed limbs, and even a severed penis. It also features heavy nudity, sexual innuendo, and some sex. Language is also very strong, with many uses of "f--k" and "s--t," as well as beer drinking and pot smoking. Older teens may be drawn to the movie for the promise of nudity implied in the title -- and it's available on demand. Parents, beware.
- Families can talk about Piranha 3DD's violence. Is it intended to be entertaining or disturbing? Can it be both at once? Is that OK?
- Is the movie scary? What's the difference between scary and bloody?
- Many of the characters have perfect body types, except one young man who's teased for being too short. Can he still be a hero? What do the heroes of movies and TV shows typically look like? Why do you think that is?
The good stuff
Messages: Greed, corruption, and exploitation are punished in terrible ways, while good characters survive.
Role models: The female lead is an outspoken, fairly strong character, although in several scenes she requires rescuing by men.
What to watch for
Violence: Many scenes of bloody mayhem, with lots of scary piranha attacks and many gallons of blood, mostly shown swirling around in water. Viewers see severed limbs and heads, as well as bloody stumps and bloody skeletons, and even a bloody, severed penis. In a very disturbing scene, a piranha is shown sticking out of a fat man's naked bottom. One of the piranhas' victims is a young boy.
Sex: Many topless women are shown, mostly swimming or lounging around a pool. In one shot, a piranha attacks a topless woman's chest. There's a sex scene between a young man and a young woman, though very little is shown. The scene is fairly intense but is interrupted by a piranha attack. A man is shown pleasuring himself, involving a water jet, in a swimming pool (nothing explicit shown). Also heavy innuendo, flirting, foreplay, suggestive dancing, and gratuitous bikini shots.
Language: Language is strong but not constant, and includes several uses of "f--k" and "s--t," plus "p---y," "damn," "oh my God," "d--k," "hell," "vagina," "penis," "ass," "idiot," and "moron."
Consumerism: Not an issue
Drinking, drugs and smoking: The young people in the movie -- who are presumably of legal drinking age -- are shown drinking beer and smoking pot in a few early scenes. A character takes a puff from a joint in a later scene as well (before using it to ignite an explosive).

I paid $14 for this in a hotel and I don't regret it. by Reel Reviewer
It's as if there is a tried and true recipe for making an incredibly entertaining movie and, for some reason, it's only been discovered a few times. Most recently by "Piranha 3DD," though. I don't know where to start, but the chicks, the bikinis, the lack of bikinis, the poor acting, the cheesy lines, the deaths and the Hoff all come to mind pretty quickly. I can only thank Dimension Films and the others for giving us this 90 minute escape from brain function. Just see it, I don't have to say anything more.

This is a great movie by foxmulder241
I seen this twice and I thought it was very funny, Ones going into to this movie expecting an Oscar caliber movie is just crazy to think a movie called Piranha 3DD would be that but if you go in wanting to see a very funny movie then this is the movie for you, this is better then the first one even.
The cast was good but the best and funniest was David Hasselhoff he was a none stop laugh his funniest part was when he was running to save a kid from the Piranhas and he commits on how old he is.
The 3D in this movie was great and worth the extra money it, I saw it both at a theater and on vudu using my PS3 and 3D T.V. and the 3D was just as good at home.
I recommend seeing this movie if you need a laugh.
All Blood and Boob yet No Thrill! by Moive_Pro126
Piranha 3DD packs a fun-filled ride, yes, but it doesn't carry the potential for a great rememberable movie. If you like boobs flapping in your face 24-7 then go to this movie. If not stay home or go see something else.
Pathetic!! by criterion123
This C rated thing casts David Hasselhoff as himself. PITIFUL!!
I am very thankful I had a pass to see it and didn't have to pay for it.
But if you want a meaningless spoof of indestructable piranha's breaking into a water park,
well, knock yourself out!!
My film of choice coming is Promethius! Can't wait for that.
